While at the E.A.A. Sun-N-Fun we talked to Kerry Kerwin a Mosquito XE ultralight helicopter owner and pilot about the Mosquito XE single seat ultralight helicopter. The Mosquito helicopter is offered in various configuration, a wide open model, the XE enclosed model, a float version, as well as various experimental versions which do not fit into the ultralight vehicle category.

The Mosquito XE airframe features' unibody construction made entirely of high quality fiberglass in a vinyl ester matrix. This is to minimize weight and maximize strength. Power is supplied by the Compact Radial MZ202 which puts out 60-hp, power.

This engine employs Reed Induction which yields a very flat torque curve ensuring power is delivered constantly over the required operating range. The MZ202 also has a lower operating speed of 6000 rpm when compared to other engines with similar power range that typically operate at 6500 to 7000 rpm resulting in less stress on the engine and improving reliability.

The complete engine package only weighs 69 pounds and comes with a 180-watt alternator that provides power to run the electrical system, which also features an electric start system. No license is required to fly the Mosquito Air or the Mosquito XEL in the US. A private fixed wing license is required to fly the Mosquito XE in the US.
