If your in the market
for a true part 103 ultralight aircraft, where no medical is
required, or an N number, that can be built for you ready to
fly, then you owe it to yourself to have a close look at the
Aerolite 103. The Aerolite 103 was formerly manufactured by
Terry Raber but has a new home with Dennis Carley of U Fly
It in Deland Florida. Dennis who has been in the ultralight
/ light sport industry for over 13 years and has built over
100 aircraft during that time, including several award
winners, bought the Aerolite 103 company in October of 2012
moved all the production equipment down to Florida in
January of 2013.
This award winning single seat ultralight was first
introduced by Terry Raber in 1996. The Aerolite 103 is a
tri-cycle gear with a steerable nosewheel. It uses a Yoke
rather than a stick for control to the elevator and ailerons
with a left hand throttle. Flaps are operated electronically
by two small 9 volt rechargeable batteries.
The craft is constructed of aluminum tubes, using bolt and
rivet together construction. The wings and tail section are
covered in presewn Dacron sailcloth. The plane comes in at
20 lbs. below the 254 lbs, Part 103 weight limit with true
three axis control, brakes, 28 HP F 33 single cylinder
engine, using a belt reduction drive with electric start,
battery, charging system, full instrumentation, and electric
flaps!
Climb out on the Aerolite 103 is between 500 and 600 feet
per minute, cruise comes in at a comfortable 55 mph. Stall
comes in at 26 mph. Fuel burn is 1.5 to 2 gallons per hours.
With the standard 5 gallon tank allowed under Part 103 this
gives you more than 2 hours of flying with lots of reserve.
Price of an Aerolite 103 ready to fly is $16,500.00 U.S.
With options such as a BRS parachute and wheel pants
available. Dennis reports that there are over 140 Aerolites
currently flying, as of April 2013 Dennis has produced three
aircraft and has orders for 3 more.
If your interested in some training Dennis also runs a full
time flight school, using the Challenger and Quicksilver
line of aircraft. |
