At the Aero show we had the opportunity to visit with Loredana Arisio of I.C.P. designers and manufacturers of the Savannah line light sport aircraft. I.C.P. has been in business since 1980, initially working supplying parts for the automotive industry. In 1989 they began building light sport aircraft. At Aero Loredana talked to us about their new version of the Savannah, the Savannah T.

The Savanna T is a tail wheel version of their tri-gear model. I.C.P. began production of the Savannah T in January of 2013 and four aircraft have been built and delivered to customers. The Savannah T is currently in the process of getting Germany certification. They are also working on ASTM certification for the U.S. market, which is expected to be completed by Airventure in late July.I.C.P Savannah XL taildragger with ICP M09 aircraft engine

Loredana introduced us to Andrea Caglio an engineer at I.C.P. Andrea gave us a quick tour of  the new M09. The I.C.P. M09 is a totally new design by I.C.P. It is a two-cylinder engine, with a 1223cc displacement and delivers 155HP at 7,000 rpm. The M09 also has a fuel injection system.

Unlike other aircraft systems the M09 has a backup system that is not fuel injected, but carburated. The secondary system has its own electronic system, spark plugs, generator, and fuel pump. It has a secondary low-pressure back up fuel mix delivery system that will keep the engine running no matter what. The back-up system will even keep the engine running if it is disconnected from the main battery.

The engine weighs in at around 160lbs. I.C.P. hopes to have it installed and being tested in an aircraft later this year. Andrea told us that they do have plans to get the engine ASTM certified. Right now they are working on European certifications.

I.C.P. has plans to make this engine available for the ultralight and the light sport aircraft markets as a ‘bolt-on’ solution. U.S. price for the M09 is expected to be in the $15,000.00 range.
