B.O.T. – D-Motor
While here at AERO we talked to Reiner Taurem of B.O.T Aircraft. We
came to ask about the B.O.T. Speed Cruiser and more
important the D-motor that is will be using. Although the
SC 07 Speed Cruiser had not had a lot of changes to the actual plane
it has had a change in the engine. The Speed
Cruiser is now equipped with the LF26 D-Motor engine. B.O.T
is the first light sport aircraft customer using the D-motor
to undergo certification in an in the USA.
Reiner told us that the D-motor (LF26) is modern and very
simple. It has a total of only 35 parts in the assembly and
can use some standard auto parts like an oil filter. The
LF26 is a 4 cylinder 2700cc water cooled engine. It has 93
HP and no gear drive box. Because the D-motor is so few
parts it follows that there is much less chance for break
down and should last a long time. The D-motor engine is very
compact. Reiner said that they had to move the engine
further forward in the nose to compensate for the 40 less
pounds in weight. The D-Motor is being built in Belgium.
In the USA the D-motor engine is in the middle of the ASTM
approval process. They have speculated that the LF26 D-Motor
will be introduced to the U.S. at a price of $17,500.00.
Reiner said during the interview, “We don’t want to
complicate their lives, we want to share our passion”, while
he told us of their participation in creating a handicapped
version of the speed cruiser and their involvement in the
“Wounded Warriors Program”. A program here in the USA to
help wounded veterans get back on their feet and live normal
and productive lives.
We were also told during the interview that there is a 6
cylinder in the works. The LF39 D-motor will be capable of
130 HP. It will be water cooled as well. He said it is
planned for 2014. |
