While at AERO we had the pleasure to talk with Milan Bristela the owner and CEO of Bristell / BRM AERO LTD.  Milan told us “The name BRM Aero was homage to what started my dreams about all things fast and mechanical: British Racing Motors, (generally known as BRM), that raced from the 1950’s to 1977.”

Milan said that BRM Aero is a small family owned and operated company. He also told us that since February 2010 BRM Aero has produced 60 aircraft, with sales in over 13 countries. Milan also said “our company is mostly focused on individual orders, where we are able to tailor installations to the customer's requests.”

At AERO 2013 BRM Aero unveiled the new New Bristell TDO (TDO means tail dragger option). Milan said the design was was actually requested by Barry Pruitt, President of Bristell USA.  Milan called the TDO version “The Dream of Real Pilots.”  The TDO has a one meter shorter wing than the tri-cycle gear version. giving it a faster roll rate.

The aircraft Bristell TDO on display at AERO was the first of the assembly line and had already been sold to a German buyer. It is planned to unveil the TDO in the U.S. at Airventure this fall.  Since the TDO is basically the same plane as the original Tri-Gear Bristell, and uses the same construction and materials it is allowing the production, testing and certification of the TDO move quickly.

The Rotax 912, 100 HP series of engines is being used to power the new Bristell TDO. When asked if there was anything new on the horizon, Milan indicated future plans were to build a carbon amphibian light sport aircraft as well as a high performance float plane.
